WATCH: Seniors keep fit with Alberton Tutela
The group of seniors at the church had an opportunity to participate both in physical and mental exercises.
ALETTA Bosman, assistant director at Alberton Tutela, kept seniors at Southcrest NG congregation fit by sharing exercises with them on June 13.
The group of 14 seniors at the church had an opportunity to participate in exercises which focused on stimulating the brain. The exercises also focused on getting muscles moving as they demonstrated a few physical exercises.

The elderly were taught techniques to reduce their stress levels, which are beneficial to them. Among other exercises were arm and leg stretches, tongue stretches and antenna exercise.
Bosman said she aimed at getting the elderly in shape both physically and mentally.

“We taught them techniques that will get them moving, even though they are old. At this age it is important for them to be active and move more often because if muscles are not used, they become stiff,” she said.

Rev Lorinda Schoonwinkel commented: “This session was important, especially since at their age they cannot go to the gym. This was beneficial to their health because if they don’t keep on moving they can easily get sick.”
Lukas Moolman, also a participant, said the exercises were helpful.

“We are grateful for the training we received today. One exercise I found effective was when we were taught of a way to relieve stress. To calm myself down, I can just touch the edge of my ears which will stimulate the brain,” said Moolman.
