Residents working on weekends could not get to work nor run their daily errands.

JPMD and police were on scene to control the protest. The ward councillor, Gladstone Zide, had to be taken from his home when angry protesters blamed him for the power outages.

A resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the RECORD their perishable foods were getting spoiled as a result of the power outage and that they cannot cook nor run their small businesses.

Another resident, Amanda Lumko, said: “It seems as if those in power only understand the protesting language because when we complain they never attend to our grievances. It is sad because we’ve recently voted and now this is happening.”

Some protesters were arrested during the protest and were expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

Residents gathered and blocked the roads with stones – here some of the stones are still visible.
