Alberton Toastmasters appoints new executive

The executive has been structured in such a manner so as to ensure fresh new ideas and energy while improving member’s public speaking and leadership skills

ALBERTON Toastmasters’ new executive is a balance between new and seasoned members.

The new executive was elected at the club’s annual general meeting (AGM) in June and will take office from July 1 until June 2020.

Congratulations to the new executive: Vuyo Sabani (president), Adri Fourie (vice president, education), Sharon Khosa (vice president, membership), Krystal Roberts (vice president, public relations), Brian Gordon-Davis (treasurer), Joel Motaung (sergeant at arms) and Petro Lombard (secretary).

On his election as the club president, Sabani said: “It’s an honour and privilege to be elected to lead this prestigious club and I take on this position with humility and respect.

“As club president, my role is simple. Mine is to oversee the club’s growth and the development of club members, both in public speaking and leadership roles.”

Sabani added, “As club members, our demeanour should epitomise the values of Toastmasters International, which are integrity, respect, service and excellence.”

Members who excelled throughout the year were also honoured at the AGM. Among the top archievers were Quinton Losper, who received awards for best speech, best impromptu speech and for winning the club’s potjiekos cooking competition. Khosa, Fourie, Roberts, Charles Mokoena and Khaya Skhosana also received awards.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, USA, the organisation’s membership exceeds 357 000 in more than 16 600 clubs in 143 countries.

Anyone is welcome to visit the club, with no obligation to join. The club meets on the first and third Thursday of the month at 7pm at the Alberton Retirement Village.
