Afrisun trustee donates to Women’s Auxiliary

Afrisun East Rand Community Trust’s trustee Dr Zolena Ngcwabe donated food parcels and blankets to the Alberton Women’s Auxiliary at Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston on July 1.

AFRISUN East Rand Community Trust’s trustee Dr Zolena Ngcwabe donated food parcels and blankets to the Alberton Women’s Auxiliary at Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston on July 1.

The trustee handed over eight food parcels and 10 blankets to the Women’s Auxiliary which are to be donated to Epworth Children’s Home and Eden Park’s Takalani Child Care and Education Centre.

The trust was launched at Carnival City in February 2001 and has enabled Ngcwabe to donate to various charitable organisations over the past 15 years. With donations she receive from the trust, she has managed to donate blankets and groceries to groups that help make a difference in the lives of others.

Main focus

Afrisun East Rand Community Trust’s primary vision is in skills development and employment-creation projects in social health and welfare, arts and culture, education, sports, and animal welfare.

They focus on bettering lives through education, taking caring of HIV/Aids patients, and supplying running water and ablution facilities in the informal settlements of Ekurhuleni.

They also offer a safe haven for abused women and children, sports training for men and women, and training in life and business skills.

By assisting certain projects, they have been able to empower small business ventures, sewing schools, pre-schools, arts and crafts centres, and boxing gyms.

The trust’s projects are overseen by trustees with support from the project, which has to nominate a project manager who works with the trustees.

The project manager is then fully responsible for the project and has the full support system of the trust.

According to Ngcwabe, she identified the Women’s Auxiliary through social media.

“I chose this organisation because they work closely with the poor. I saw them on Facebook requesting the public to help them with old jerseys. Since I knew I could not help them with any jerseys, I decided to help in this way. I gave them these parcels so they can donate them to homes and relevant organisations,” she said.

Mary Ellerbeck, a general president of Women’s Auxiliary, extended her gratitude.

“We as the Women’s Auxiliary are grateful for the donations we have received. It will help us donate to our chosen organisations, and since it is winter, these blankets will make a huge difference,” said Ellerbeck.

Sandra Human, the president of the Highveld and Swaziland District Women’s Auxiliary, commented: “As part of making a difference in the community during this month of giving back, we also believe we will help bring change to the less fortunate.”
