MAGDA VENTON: “I condemn this in shops, although it’s rare to have them beg inside these retail shops. Beggars should bother us in parking lots just after we have done our shopping.”
THE latest trend of beggars asking for help inside retails shops has raised some concerns.
The RECORD asked Albertonians if they thought beggars should be allowed inside retail shops?
MARIETTE VAN DE WERKEN: “For me, it’s a big no. There are so many people taking chances that you don’t know who is really in need. A couple is begging in shops for baby formula, usually asking elderly people. If all goes well, they will wait for a while and then exchange the formula for cash. Because of this dishonesty, it tends to raise questions to the public.”
AMOS SHABANGU: “They shouldn’t be allowed to beg, because just after giving them your money, you’ll realise that they are targeting you, waiting to rob you once you’re outside. If you’re not able to give them any money, you’ll start feeling like you have wronged them.”
RULIEN PRINSLOO: “Beggars shouldn’t be allowed to beg in shops at all because robbers will get to see how this is done and take advantage of the situation to rob people.”
DANIEL MNISI: “They should be stopped from begging inside shops, by doing this they are intimidating customers. Instead, they should do this outside the shops.”
