ON July 18 Frances Vorwerg School celebrated Mandela Day with a special assembly opening at 8am.
Learners were given an introduction to the life of Ntate where they afterwards had the opportunity to win prizes answering questions about Mandela Day.
Southgate Shopping Centre donated R10 000 towards bicycles for the hostel learners. Curro Castle Day Care Centre donated sanitary pads to all the girls 13 and older.
The day was a great success when all the physiotherapists, occupational- and speech therapists had the opportunity to do their 67 minutes with the Technical Occupational Phase of the school.
These teams moved books with trolleys from a store room to the new library that was partly sponsored by the community and parents of the school.
The new library will be called Mandela Reading room and is still being renovated.
The school is in need of donations in the form of books and comfortable “puff chairs” for reading nooks.
If the community can assist with computers, books, soft cushions and puff chairs kindly contact Anandi Spies on 011 683 3390.
