Donate unwanted children’s books
Make a difference in your community this National Book Week and International Literacy Day.
LITERACY is a human right and the foundation of all learning.
Did you know that 58 percent of households do not have access to a single leisure book? A staggering 78 percent of Grade fours are not able to read with meaning. Only 47 percent of the South African population read printed books.
South Africa has a reading crisis and these are just a few of the shocking statistics.
The Alberton RECORD, with the help of the public, wants to make a difference in ensuring that all the above-mentioned statistics are pushed to 100 percent in an attempt to eradicate illiteracy in our communities.
We are asking the public to donate children’s books to our office at 1 Eaton Terrace, New Redruth, which we will distribute as part of our reading campaign for National Book Week, which is from September 2 to 8 and International Literacy Day on September 8.
Together we can make a difference in our community.
