[GALLERY + VIDEO]: Alberton library promotes reading to the community
Since its inception, the library has run numerous programmes that are aimed at educating children.
ALBERTON Library recently set up 18 computers in one of its sections and plans to install more in the children’s section. This is aimed at introducing people to computer programs, to encourage them to read more and to empower them to do research.
Since its inception, the library has run numerous programmes that are aimed at educating children.
These programmes include a reading programme, a writer’s programme and other mind-stimulating activities.
Hilda Tshweu, chief librarian at Alberton Library, said: “We would often invite crèches to the library, show them around and do library orientation programmes for children. Crèches may call in to make arrangements with us to participate in our reading programmes.”
She encouraged the community to read more and said parents should also motivate their children to read a book every day.

“It is important to start reading to children at an early age. This helps them with their listening skills and gets them interested in reading.
“The community at large should also be active readers as this opens their minds and improves their vocabulary,” she said.
