Amcare invites community for HIV testing
AMCARE and Aurum Institute, a leading healthcare organisation, invite the community to come through for testing.
AMCARE and Aurum Institute, a leading healthcare organisation, have joined hands to promote a healthy lifestyle and the well-being of the Alberton community.
On August 21, the institute, at Amcare, provided healthcare services including HIV testing and tuberculosis (TB) screening as well as providing necessary medication.
Awareness of sexually transmitted diseases, and ways of improving the community’s well-being, was given.
Persons found to be in need of treatment are referred to a hospital.
The partnership aims to improve service provision in clinics, and to meet clinics halfway with testing and counselling.
According to Sr Laetitia Murray, through the partnership they hope to reach out to as many people as possible in the community.
“We want to get the message out there that Amcare is operating as an HIV testing point. We offer a basic service here, yet an important one.
“This is a first step, but we plan to expand this. I am happy we are testing again, we request the community to come and test,” she said.
Nosihle Mhlongo, an Aurum Institute counsellor, encouraged the community to visit Amcare for testing.
“We have tested a few people who came through. People should understand that HIV is not a death sentence, it’s important to know your status. If a person takes medication at the right time, the condition can be manageable,” she said.
Nadine Mason, Amcare marketing director, said: “We will offer full time comprehensive services and this will benefit everyone. We will operate from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, once a week.”
