General Alberts Park’s youngest racer takes after his family
Thirteen-year-old racer Calvin Muldery has made a name for himself as Alberton's youngest racer.
THE JOURNEY of a thousand miles begins with one step. That’s what it took Calvin Muldery, a 13-year-old car racer.
Being a car fanatic landed him into being one of Alberton’s youngest car racers to win in a drag-racing competition.
In 2015, Calvin made a name for himself as he came in third place during an oval-track race at the Rock Raceway in Brakpan. That’s where his journey started, there he partook in a race and drag competition. After giving spectators a stunning performance, he was appreciated with a certificate.
Calvin’s passion for racing was inspired by the love his late grandfather had for racing. The Grade Seven Laerskool President Steyn learner hopes to follow in the footsteps of his family members. Racing runs through the Muldery family’s veins. Both his uncle and his father are also racers.
Calvin found himself a place he calls home, Royal Street Society (RSS). This is an Alberton-based accommodating race crew that takes pride in helping others through its charity events, while doing what they love. Calvin joined the crew three months ago and through the crew he hopes to improve himself.

Time-out
During his leisure time, Calvin mostly spends time at car shows, this is where he finds his peace of mind. Being a sibling to his eight-year-old brother also taught him to be responsible at a tender age.
Calvin’s peers describe him as a brave youngster, while his parents regard him as a humorous person.
“Whenever I get a chance I will go to work with my dad to work on cars and practice rugby after school. On weekends, I always go with my uncle to racing tracks to help with his cars. I am privileged to learn and know more than other children my age about how cars work and how to drive and repair cars,” he said.
Accomplishments
Juggling both work and school always tends to be a challenge, but Calvin excels in both. In total, Calvin has at least 12 certificates obtained from his involvement in school sport and academics. He has also been acknowledged for being the best rugby player. In 2017, he received a trophy in a school competition. A number of skills sets him apart from his peers, one being modifying cars.
Looking forward, the youngster sees himself being a professional rugby player and to follow his dream of one day becoming an engineer – “working on cars”.
