BRACKENHURST Primary School’s support group supports parents whose children are diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Through the school’s programme, which started in May this year, parents are offered an awareness session which is mostly hosted monthly where a few parents are given awareness on the condition.
The programme comprises professionals from all walks of life, including teachers at the school.
During a normal gathering, parents are taken through numerous educational sessions.
There they are given a preferred diet for children with ADHD and taught more about the condition.
Jenny Engelbrecht, head of the support group, commented: “This session consists of a few teachers at the school and professionals from different fields who teach the parents voluntarily.
“This is more about them and not us, the parents are able to learn through each other as they share ideas. We want people to know that ADHD exists and is here to stay.”
She also said parents whose children have ADHD may contact her through the school on 011 900 1000, she may connect them with relevant people.
