On October 26 an official from the Alberton Fire Department visited several locations and residents, but was unable to determine the cause of the smell.

The difficulty determining the origin of the smell is that the smell is largely present later at night.

The smell has been described by residents as possibly being gas, burning tyres or some even describing a smell like sulphur.

Officials have placed pin drops at the various locations the complaints originate from to be able to get back there at night.

They have requested that anyone that smells the smell should please phone the operations coordinator on 011 999 1907 to report it. If this number is unavailable please phone 011 458 0911 and report the matter.

After reporting the smell please advise the following people, Swazi Mdluli on 082 364 9156, Jerry Chaka on 082 454 7090 or Christian Dladla on 082 781 5945.
