Deceased body found in veld

A deceased body, which could have been in the veld for months, was found on January 29.

SOUTH CREST – A hunter who scans the veld with his dogs in South Crest stumbled upon a deceased body on January 29, which could have been in the veld for a few months.

The dogs were hunting for rabbits, dassies, guinea fowl and anything they can find to eat, as many homeless people reside in the veld.

The deceased’s belongings were seen on the piece of ground he occupied. CPS Security members said that his pants were below his knees and that he was faced down.

An ambulance was called to the scene by SAPS members and medical staff declared the man dead. He was taken to the Germiston mortuary.

CPS Security and SOG (Special Operations Group) responded to the call after they heard the report over the CPF (Community Policing Forum) radio.

It is not clear if the deceased had any family members, although SAPS members said that it was more likely that he was a homeless man residing in the veld. He might have passed away from hunger.
