For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer
Their children describe them as a couple who are the epitome of honouring wedding vows.
Alberton residents Dawie and Ruth du Plessis celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on December 5.
Dawie (75) and Ruth (78), née Noke, du Plessis relocated to Alberton in May 1981 from Brixton, Johannesburg, and put down roots in Toon van den Heever Street, Randhart.
They were united in marriage at AFM Pinksteroord on December 5, 1964, and their reception was held at the Bienne Donne Hall at the show grounds on Empire Road.
Dawie and Ruth attended the same church and that is also where they met. They share a huge love for gospel music. Both play various musical instruments and they have sang together throughout the years.
Although the couple are still very active in their church in the music ministry, Dawie and Ruth are both retired and are currently residing in Florentia.
They are blessed with three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Their children describe them as a couple who are the epitome of honouring wedding vows.
Ruth attributes her long marriage to “always being the least” and Dawie said his recipe for success is “serving the Lord and having a mutual respect for one another”.
“They have stuck together for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health,” said Charmain Delport, one of their children.
“We have watched them love and cherish each other and for that, we thank them. Only death will part them.”
Their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren wish them many more happy years to come.
