South African Weather Services (Saws) is expecting road flooding in various parts of Gauteng.
The South African Weather Services (Saws) is expecting road flooding in various parts of Gauteng to escalate because of incessant rains. The province has been experiencing downpours since the beginning of the week.
The City’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (Dems) is on high alert following the downpours that have caused flooding and the roads to be slippery.
Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi said some of the roads have potholes filled with rain water which motorists may not identify.

“Deep and large potholes may, and can, lead to fatal crashes. Keeping a safe following distance, and obeying speed limits, can save lives.
“Motorists should check their vehicle tyres, wipers and lights before travelling to prevent accidents. By so doing, lives could be saved,” he said.
He also advised communities in low-laying areas to be on high alert.
“The ground is saturated and any drizzle may result in flooding. Crossing water streams is dangerous and could lead to drowning,” he added.
He said all 29 fire station firefighters, and specialised rescue teams around the City, are ready to respond to any emergency related to flooding.
