Save the date for Bennies Book Fayre in 2020
“What makes this very different from other book fairs is that all the authors will be there on the day to promote and sell their books, and all of the books are for children and young adults.”

A DATE to diarise is March 14, 2020, from 10am until 3pm, when Bennies Book Fayre will be taking place at St Benedict’s Prep School in Bedfordview, in conjunction with the Schools Reading Roadshow.
“What makes this very different from other book fairs is that all the authors will be there on the day to promote and sell their books, and all of the books are for children and young adults,” said Jann Weeratunga from Winchester Hills.
“Local authors, including Michelle Richardson, Tammy Bradbury, Jo-Anne Jospeh, Jolene Raison and Kim Hunter, will be there, with close to 100 other authors.
“There will be question and answer sessions, fun workshops and reading, interviews with authors, an activity corner and children’s reading corner, not forgetting an exciting treasure hunt to keep the children entertained. There will be books for every age, from six months to 16 years,” added Weeratunga.
With all the activities going on, you’ll be able to recharge your batteries at the food stalls and tea garden.
“Another different thing about this book fair is that special-needs children will be able to come with their parents and siblings half an hour before the doors open. This will give them time to wander around without too many people being there,” Weeratunga said.
For a family of four to enter the Bennies Book Fayre, it will cost R50 or R30 per adult and R10 per child.
“We are looking for sponsorships from R500 to R15 000 and there are also banners available, as well as advertising opportunities,” Weeratunga added.
A few under-funded schools have been identified and the children from those schools will be sponsored with transport, lunch and a book to take home with them. The school is situated in Harcus Road, Bedfordview, and there’ll be plenty of safe parking with security. For more information or if you’d like to assist with sponsorship for the event, you can contact Jann on 072 246 7101 or Kim on 079 876 2086.
