Party people ruin public space in Verwoerdpark

Ward 37 councillor Tiaan Kotzé has slammed the littering and loud music at a public space in Verwoerdpark, near Alberton Dam.

Ward 37 councillor Tiaan Kotzé has slammed the littering and loud music at a public space in Verwoerdpark, near Alberton Dam.

This comes after a resident of Alberton complained to Kotzé that the site was being left full of litter, usually after each weekend.

The resident said people gathered at the spot on weekends and blared their music from their cars.

Kotzé told the RECORD that people were not prohibited from gathering at the public place, but he appealed to them keep it clean.

“In terms of regulation, there is no sign which indicates what people should or should not do because it is not a park. My other worry is that the people who gather here are close to cable lines, which may pose a danger to them when there is lightning,” he said.

EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng urged the community to report any loud noise caused within the area of Alberton.

“We encourage the community to report any noise caused by either their neighbours or anyone in the community on 086 054 3000 or on 011 458 0911.

“They must first approach those noise makers, but if those people don’t comply they should then give us a call,” said Mokheseng.

He said they first give noise makers a verbal warning, followed by a written warning before confiscating their music system.
