City says potholes in Combrinck Street are because of sewer blockage

Despite the City having repaired a few huge potholes in Combrinck Street, Alrode, motorists are concerned that the road poses a danger to them.

Despite the City having repaired a few huge potholes in Combrinck Street in Alrode on January 17, motorists are concerned that the road still poses a danger to them.

Their concerns are that the huge potholes do not only damage vehicles, but may lead to accidents in the bumpy road.

A complainant, who wishes to remain anonymous, said it is impossible to see where the potholes are when it is raining.

“Unless you are a motorist who is familiar with the road, you won’t know where these potholes are when they fill up with rainwater,” said the complainant.

Samantha Muirhead, a complainant, told the RECORD these were seriously large potholes and that many vehicles had been damaged by them.

“There is also water that is continuously running into the road from the property across the road, which I am sure makes the potholes worse, so this will need to be fixed as well.”

As a result of this, motorists would drive into oncoming traffic to try and avoid these potholes. It’s only been a week, but the potholes are building up again,” she said.

Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, the City’s divisional head of communications, said: “The potholes in Combrinck Street are caused by a constant sewer blockage that damages the roads.

“The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will repair the sewer blockage in order for potholes to be fixed because the surface is always wet.”
