Ward 94 councillor Marina van Wyk has expressed great concern about the illegal dumping at the corner of Potgieter and Dan Jacobs streets in Alrode.

She has received numerous complaints about illegal dumping in the open space.

“I encourage people to come forward with their complaints in order for their matters to be resolved.

“I again appeal to the community to please keep open spaces clean as this defaces our area.

“We need international investors and visitors coming to our industrial area and they should be impressed by the area,” she said.

Joseph Mwale, a hawker who sells fast food on the side of the road, said the dumping also affected his business adversely.

“I have been working here for a year now and this has affected my business negatively.

“Since I work with food, the dumped waste sometimes has a terrible smell and this is not good for business. People dump anything, from dead dogs to rubble,” said Mwale.
