WATCH: Nothing changed at Kromvlei Cemetery
"Every weekend it saddens me to see the state the cemetery is in."
Ansie Bezuidenhout is in despair after hopelessly waiting for the overgrown grass and weeds to be cut at Kromvlei Cemetery.
She expressed her family’s dissatisfaction following a response which was provided by Ekurhuleni head of cemeteries Harriet Bless when the RECORD published an article after numerous complaints about the state of the cemetery in 2019.
In her response, Bless committed to making sure that all Alberton cemeteries will be cleaned before December 24, 2019.
Bezuidenhout, whose father is buried in the cemetery, told the RECORD she feels the City is dragging its feet in cleaning the cemetery.
“My father died in November 2018 and my mother and I normally visit his and my grandparents’ graves every Sunday.

“Every weekend it saddens me to see the state the cemetery is in.
“This is my father’s last resting place and we try to keep his grave clean, but to walk through the tall grass is worrying,” she said.
She said she hopes the municipality would take accountability and attend to the issue.
The RECORD has contacted the City’s Department of Parks and Cemeteries and an update will be published once comment has been issued.
