Help Antoinette to change lives

Antionette Venter (73) from the SAPS Victim Support Unit is the woman behind the project, which she simply calls Tannie A.

In times of need, and especially during the lockdown, many elderly citizens rely on Tannie A for food deliveries

Tannie A is in need of food donations during this difficult time as she is still working and helping those in need in Alberton.

Antionette Venter (73) from the SAPS Victim Support Unit is the woman behind the project, which she simply calls Tannie A.

She has been living in Alberton for 16 years.

“While working at the SAPS Victim Support Unit, I saw a lot of women in their pyjamas standing in our offices looking for help.

“And this is when I realised that there is a need in our town. That’s how the project, Tannie A, began,” said Antoinette.

Elderly in need

She has always had a passion for people and she is living her life by helping others and making their lives better one day at a time.

“I do need help, but no physical help as the risks are too high at the moment. I do not want to encourage residents to leave their homes during the 21-day lockdown.

“So I made arrangements to pick up donations and to deliver food to those in need. The biggest group of needy people now is our elderly as they are not just in need of food and medication, but some of them are not taking the lockdown very well as they feel very lonely,” said Antoinette.

It is about teamwork

According to her, teamwork is what made her project a success over the years.

“Ralph Levy is a pensioner who took it upon himself to help me with deliveries and I do want to mention that I work with a lot of charities. Also a big thank you to Yolanda Rosslee who helps with everything and Elize Volsckenk from Happy Hearts.”

People can donate any food, but she is in particular need of soya, rice, pasta and coffee.

“I want to ask those who want to help to buy the goods they want to donate rather than just giving money. I will then come and pick up the donations,” she said.

Antoinette thanked the community for their loyal support over the years and wished everyone well during the rest of the lockdown days.
