The Gauteng Department of Health is calling on the residents of the city to receive their flu vaccinations from local clinics or health centres from April 6.

This applies to people who have not yet received the flu vaccination.

The vaccination is not compulsory, but is strongly encouraged.

The influenza vaccine is not effective against Covid-19, but cases of flu can increase the pressure on the health-care system.

Vaccinations for vulnerable people will be prioritised.

On April 6, pregnant women will be the priority, with the elderly the priority on April 7 and children on April 8.
