In light of the country’s lockdown period, Alberton SAPS commends the community for complying with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call.
According to Capt Manare Ramotshela, Alberton SAPS’ spokesperson, the community has responded positively to the lockdown regulations.
He also announced that crime in the area has decreased due to the lockdown and people staying indoors.
“Compared to last year around this time, the crime rate is now lower since people are told to stay in their homes. I think if people remained in their homes, crime in our community will be less. One should realise that being outside without a valid reason is an offence,” said Ramotshela.
He told the RECORD that they had to arrest people who were not complying with the lockdown regulations.
“We had to make different types of arrests, but some of those arrests include a few members of the community who have violated the regulations.
“Sector three, which includes areas such as Rondebult and the side of Germiston, have been tricky during this time,” he said.
He urged residents to comply with the regulations and advised them to keep safe during this time.
“Members of the community who are not complying are reminded that SAPS members will be on the lookout and monitor movements.
“We appeal to the community to not only obey the laws of the country, but to also keep their loved ones safe during this time,” said Ramotshela.
He advised those who needed permission to bury their loved ones to make use of their nearest police station for permits.
