Alberton Methodist Church cares for the needy amid lockdown

During lockdown, through the Alberton Methodist Church’s Let’s Feed Jesus soup kitchen, the church continues to make a difference in the lives of others.

The church has a dedicated team that runs a weekly soup kitchen, preparing food each week and delivering it to needy communities in and around Alberton.

During this period, they have been able to up their deliveries to two trips per week in areas such as Alberton North and surrounding areas. They currently supply about 250 hotdogs each week.

Candice Fesenmeier, a leader of the soup kitchen, said this is made possible with great team work, creative thinking, food donations and God’s grace and mercy.

The Let’s Feed Jesus soup kitchen has been going for six years now, sharing God’s love with kindness and a smile with one hotdog at a time.

“The fight against hunger in and around Alberton is very real and while 250 hotdogs per week is a wonderful start, we know there are so many people in need,” said Fesenmeier.

She said their church’s leadership has contributed immensely in enabling them to keep running.

“Our Pastor, reverend Jeff van der Spuy, and his leadership team, have all been a monumental part of the soup kitchen. They have been very hands on in assisting with planning and collecting food, being available on each trip and inspiring the team with prayer and God’s word,” she said.

She appealed to the community to help them in their fight against hunger, especially during lockdown.

“If you are able to assist us in donating ready made hotdogs on a Tuesday or a Friday and live in and around Alberton, we can send a driver to come collect them from you.

“Donations such non-perishable food items, soap, toothpaste and shampoo will be highly appreciated,” she said.
