WATCH: MASA donates food to Alberton informal settlement

MASA) donated over 300 buckets of food to the residents of Alberton train station informal settlement

The Muslim Association of South Africa (MASA) donated over 300 buckets of food to the people in need in the Alberton train station informal settlement.

The donations consisted of basic goods like oil and flour.

MASA was assisted by Vision Tactical who handled the logistics and ensured the smooth operation on the day.

According to Yaseen Theba, chairman of the board of MASA, their association provides relief to those who are negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

They have largely been providing support in the Johannesburg inner city area. Food donations and food hampers have gone to many people in the Alberton area across all demographics.

“The lockdown has left a lot of people with a loss of income,” said Yaseen.

According to him the lockdown has led to much hardship for the people and in some areas have even led to looting. “This is something we want to try and avoid,” he said.

Ward councilor for the area Tiaan Kotze thanked MASA for their initiative to support the people in the informal settlement and the relief they brought for the people.
