Alberton SPCA welcomes new inspector

Sipho Letsoala from South Hills joined Alberton SPCA on April 1.

Sipho Letsoalo (30) from South Hills is very excited to be the new inspector at the Alberton Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Before joining the team of the Alberton SCPA, he was working for the National SPCA as a trainee inspector and he was also part of the team who went to inspect the sheep on the Al Messilah vessel. He has since qualified as a full inspector and the Alberton SPCA is very happy to have someone like him with vast knowledge.

Saw an opportunity

“I saw the SPCA advertised a vacancy and decided to send in my CV and from there on everything just happened,” said Letsoalo.
He started working at the Alberton SPCA on April 1.
According to him, his duties include enforcing the Animals Protection Act, attending to complaints, make sure that the welfare of animals is not compromised, handle confiscations, do court appearances and pro-active inspections at petting farms, security companies and other facilities (private and commercial) in the specific SPCA’s district.

Excited about his new job

“The best part of being an inspector is that I get to work not only with animals but I also get the chance to work with underprivileged communities. I am the person who educates them about the SPCA and animal care and protection.”
Letsoalo said most of the time, bad things happen because people are not being educated.
The challenges he faces are people not complying with concerns that he as an inspector have raised. His goal as an inspector is to help and protect animals, but also to let residents know about the SPCA’s visions and missions and to understand their mandates.
“I would like to get the youth more involved in the SPCA as they are our future,” he said.

Message to community

“I want to let the community know that I have their best interests at heart. I want us to work hand-in-hand with them.
