EMPD responds to accident in January
The driver of the BMW wants to know why the matter has been left unattended as the driver who crashed into his car was underage.

A CAR accident was reported on January 16 and according to the driver of a BMW vehicle, an underage driver had crashed into his car on the corner of Swartkoppies and Potgieter streets in Alrode.
The matter has been left unattended. The driver of the vehicle provided documentation of his vehicle, which resulted in repairs to an amount of R138 923.47 (repair after excess deductions) as per an auto repair shop.
The EMPD report stated that regarding damages, the insurance company of the car will possibly refuse to fix the vehicle, as it was driven by an unlicensed driver.
Other parties, whose vehicles were damaged, will have to legally pursue the owner who allowed an unlicensed driver to use his/her vehicle; the courts will decide the matter. EMPD can only provide details of the accident and statements provided by the drivers via an OAR (Officer Accident Report) form.
The aggrieved parties will have to litigate against the registered owner of the vehicle driven by an unlicensed driver. In respect of injuries if any, the aggrieved parties can sue the registered owner for pain, loss of income etc. by employing the services of a lawyer.
