Joburg South Garden Club enjoys a blooming good meeting
Johannesburg South Garden Club held its AGM and prize giving recently, at its new permanent venue, Entrance Precinct, Peggy Vera Road, Kibler Park.
SOUTH OF JOHANNESBURG – Fathima Badat welcomed everyone to the meeting, gave her AGM report and thanked everyone for their support while she was the chairperson. “To Maud and Denise, Brenda and Anne, my special thanks,” Fathima said.

Maud Pickup gave an overview of the past year’s meetings and outings, saying that it was a busy and interesting year with some lovely outings to various places as well as two flower shows, held at Tulip Garden Centre. “Thanks to all the members who entered the flower shows and those who assisted to make them what they were. Thanks also to Tulip Garden Centre for accommodating us.
“Congratulations to all the winners, the entries were fabulous,” added Maud.
The new executive committee for the following year is: Maud Pickup (chair), Rob Jones (vice chair), Fathima Badat, Anne Du Plessis, Denise Haslecker, Brenda Hay, Bess Van Staden and Leonarda Jones.
June and July meetings
The meetings for June/July will be held at the Precinct, Peggy Vera Road, Kibler Park at 10:00. You are very welcome to bring along your friends to these meetings.
Saturday June 21 – Gina Shoemaker will speak on Climate Reality Ambassador Bsc, Ornamental Horticulture. Subject: Organic recycling, vermiculture, compost, etc. etc. Floral Theme: “Father’s Day”
Tuesday June 24 – Speaker: Patsy Vergeer. Subject: Herbs and spices for everyday use.
Saturday July 19 Speaker: Judd Kirkel. Subject: Succulents and walk about in Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve. Please bring along your hats, and wear walking shoes for a short walk in the KNR with Judd. Floral Theme: “Autumn Glory”
Tuesday July 29 – Christmas in July. Hands on workshop will be Christmas Cracker Centrepiece.
