Striking workers complete unfinished toilets

Strikers are using their time striking building toilets in their neighborhood.

EDEN PARK – In 2008 residents from Eden Park, Thokoza and Phola Park illegally occupied empty RDP houses in Riemvasmaak. More than half of the houses had half-built toilets or no toilets at all.

Residents completed the half-built toilets, while others have been sharing a toilet with their neighbours, where five to six households shared one toilet.

“For six years we have been using other people’s toilets. The NUMSA strike has given me a good chance to complete my toilet with free help from my striking friends,” said Wayne Stevens.
