Chris Swanepoel wants to see Ward 36 flourish

Councillor Chris Swanepoel invisions that quality services are provided.

Your vision for your ward:

That quality services are provided to all the residents of Ward 36.

What are the most important changes you want to see happening?

That residents get value for their money in terms of service delivery and that the administration of the Metro is run efficiently, which of course could only be achieved when the Metro is governed by the Democratic Alliance, who will make sure of the necessary changes to staff, policies and procedures when required.

What will you use the money allocated to your ward for?

There are no specific monies allocated to a ward, except by way of a priority list incorporated into the IDP (Integrated Development Plan). An example: the Alberton Dam is in the process of a major renovation which started last year, when the top part of the dam area was redesigned. The lapa is in the process of being fully renovated so that it can again be rented out to the public for functions. The filter plant will be refurbished and fencing around the edge of the dam and the perimeter fencing will be attended to. Water quality is in the process of getting urgent attention by an environmental specialists. The whole project will be completed in the latter part of 2014.

Your career as a Councillor:

I was elected as DA Councillor for Ward 36 in May 2011, after being a Council Official for 38 years and therefore fortunate to have a very good working relationship with Council Officials when it comes to emergency repairs and maintenance and Treasury/Administrative matters and queries from the community. The DA is the official opposition and does not govern the Ekurhuleni Metro, but thrives to support and assist the community as a matter of priority.

General:

Ward 36 is a large ward which incorporates Germiston South in Railway Street (Germiston Railway station), in the North bordering on Johannesburg Metro at Herriotdale in the west right down to Elandshaven, Florentia and a small part of Verwoerdpark, with border streets Schoeman, Rose and Kritzinger in Alberton in the South, and bordering Elsburg in the east.

Cllr Swanepoel would like to thank the communities of all the suburbs in Ward 36, Germiston and Alberton North, for their patience and support of the last three years, when it comes to all the service delivery issues of this ward and is almost always available by phone or SMS on his cell 08 237 73401.
