Fatal accident: Eyewitness ready to testify against driver
An eyewitness who saw the whole accident last Sunday on the corner of Ring Road West and Fore Street, claiming the life of Llewellyn Adams (74), is willing to testify against the driver of the BMW.

ALBERTON – “We just turned into the driveway of the block of flats where we are staying and we could see Mr Adams crossing the intersection. The traffic light was green for him and he must have been doing 40km/h if that. The next moment the BMW came flying around the corner, hit Mr Adam’s car. The impact flung Mr Adams from his car and the car landed on him.
“My husband, Tienie rushed to the car and tried to lift it from Mr Adams, I was screaming for help and two other gentlemen, Jack and Taylor, came to assist. There was a young man with the name Jerome who also stopped and helped us. They lifted the car and my husband pulled Mr Adams from underneath, very slowly and away from the vehicle because petrol was spurting out of the car.
“Rushing over to the BMW that hit Mr Adams’ car, the driver and passenger were outside of the vehicle already and he started swearing and shouting that now everyone is going to think that it is his fault. He stood there as if he did nothing wrong. But he skipped that robot and he was driving at a high speed. People have to know the truth and he has to pay for what he has done or he will just take another life.
“This young man was picking a dice with the other BMW driver, who clearly was not interested, We were coming from the hospital’s side, and they were one traffic light behind us, and he was revving his car. My husband still said look at the speed this man is driving as he is going to kill somebody.
“I cannot believe that emergency services’ reports are so wrong. We phoned and they kept on telling us it has to go through the radio room and then only can they dispatch emergency services. I eventually phoned CPS to rush to the hospital and try and get some help. We waited about 20 minutes for emergency services to arrived.”
She concluded, “May he rest in peace and may his family find peace.”
Alberton Police confirmed on Thursday that no arrest have yet been made and the court will decide when they appear and there is no court date yet as investigation still continuing. The driver has been charged with reckless or negligent driving of a vehicle on a public road, and that the investigation must first follow its course. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, charges of culpable homicide may be added.
