7 Activities with the kids that won’t break the bank
School is out!
Many parents find that they cannot stick to their budgets with all the expenses that come with entertaining children over the holiday season. Here are some low/no cost ideas to keep the kids busy this summer.
1. Take them to the zoo. Rietvlei Zoo Farm is very reasonably priced. Entrance for children under 12 years old is R20 each and R30 per person older than 13 years. There are many activities for them to do at the zoo including feeding the animals, playing putt-putt, going on pony or tractor rides and riding on a steam train. Most of the activities cost an additional R10.
2. Make a short film. Use your smart phone or camera to make a video clip of your children doing something fun that you will be able to treasure forever.
3. Browse the books at the Alberton Library. The library is located just behind Alberton City and has a large selection of children’s literature.
4. Make a blanket tent out of chairs and sheets.
5. Play games like hide and seek or blind man’s bluff.
6. Go on a bicycle ride
7. Make flavoured ice blocks using concentrated fruit juice.
