South Crest house goes up in flames

Smoke filled the air on Irving Steyn Street as fire fighters blew tiles from the roof of the house on fire.

Micaela Branford thought the family across the street was having a braai, before she heard the screams of the neighbours next door. Her mother alerted the authorities, while her father rushed across the street and attempted to stop the fire.

Once the fire fighters arrived, it took over an hour to make sure the flames were out.

Community police forums, security companies, emergency services, police and trauma counselling were on site to assist while the blaze was extinguished.
