Family asks for help

When Keenan Moodley was nine days old he stopped breathing.

After seeking medical help, his parents were told that Keenan had meningitis. He was ill for a long time, but his parents, Nerupa and Shaun, thought that it was over.

They became concerned as Keenan could not sit unassisted at the age of nine months. They knew something was wrong. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and intervention was immediately introduced.

Keenan is two years and eight months old now. He has increased muscle tone in both legs with his left side more affected than his right. The spasticity in his legs prevents him from sitting, standing and walking without assistance. His left arm and hand has also been affected. Despite his challenges, Keenan is developing normally in other areas.

Nerupa and Shaun received more bad news when doctors told them that Keenan’s condition is worsening clinically. They were told that he would need Botox therapy to improve his gait, the use of his left arm and hand and to avoid surgery in the future. The therapy is not offered by the Moodley’s hospital and the expense is something they are unable to afford.

The Moodley family is appealing to the community to assist with donations to enable them to pay for Keenan’s medical care.
