Bridge the Gap with Neil Diamond: Ekurhuleni – State of the City 2015

The State of the City Address (SOCA) by the Mayor is a highlight in the legislature calendar of Ekurhuleni and is the local Government equivalent of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered annually by the President.

The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Cllr Mondli Gungubele, will deliver the State of the City Address this morning March 25 at 10:00. Last year the Mayor dedicated the State of the City Address to the heroes and heroines of the struggle that gave birth to what we now share – our united, democratic, non-racial and non-sexist South Africa, of which we are all proud.

As residents we so often think of everything that is wrong, and seldom take the time to proud be of our achievements as citizens of Ekurhuleni and South Africa. The Mayor will today present a collection of reasons why we should be proud residents of our City – all three million of us that call Ekurhuleni home.

The theme of the SOCA will be in line with last year – “Strengthening Social Maturity by Advancing Social Cohesion in Pursuit of a Prosperous and, therefore, Liveable City”.This is the same theme under which the Mayors made his speech last year, because as a local government we remain convinced of the continued relevance of this theme.

The mayor’s speech will be filled with comments and input from residents who sent in their requests on the State of the City to the Mayor. I relished the way that residents’ input shaped the Mayor’s approach to the State of the City, and I see this as a sign of political maturity in our democracy.

EMM’s Mayor has many achievements to showcase this year, and most notable will be improved service delivery as well as Ekurhuleni’s many achievements since the 2014 State of the City Address. He will aim to bridge the gap on access by all communities to the local public service and improved service delivery. Ekurhuleni is truly a better place to live in today than what it was in the beginning of this current term of office.

The Mayor will surely recommit councillors and officials to work tirelessly in 2015 and 2016 to make Ekurhuleni an even better place by realisng the mandate of our people to create a better life for all.
