Power should be back by five

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) has stated that the power interruption affecting Alrode Industrial area, in Alberton, should end by 17:00 today (May, 8).

The interruption is due to failure of high voltage equipment supplying power to the Alrode industrial area from substation Z2 in Alberton.

Upon investigating the cause of the outage, it was discovered that the earth mug cables on Clark Street had been tampered with, subsequently causing the insulators connected to cables supplying power to the industrial area to burn out. Power was previously interrupted due to theft of oil valves at substation Z7.

Ekurhuleni technicians are currently carrying out repair works at Substation Z2, while another team is at the at the Eiger Substation carrying out cable testing for alternative power supply while repair works are underway.

The EMM wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
