Solar lights a first for Mrs Mathibe

For the first time in her life she will now have access to lights.

THOKOZA – Even though Mrs Mamotolo Mathibe applied for electricity in 2005, she has never received any assistance. Now, thanks to DA councillors, she has access to solar lights to lighten her dark nights.

When she applied for electricity, she was promised that a meter box will be installed but she had no luck.

“They come only to make a promise that they will install a meter box but, since 2005, they have never done it” said Mrs Mathibe.

DA spokesperson Lebo More explained that up until now, Mrs Mathibe has been reliant on the use of paraffin for cooking and light. When she ran out of paraffin, cooking was done on a fire with candles giving light.

Mrs Mathibe decided to contact the Democratic Alliance in Katlehong for assistance.

On May 12, the team from Katlehong, including Councillor Sylverter Bodibe and Councillor Ernest Hlatswayo, presented her with four solar lights and demonstrated how they work.
