The root of the problem

An overflowing sewer in Rae Frankel Street has caused havoc for residents in Brackenhurst.

ALBERTON – An overflowing sewer in Rae Frankel Street has caused havoc for residents in Brackenhurst.

According to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), the problem was due to tree roots entering the sewer and causing blockages in the pipe.

The metro has reportedly cleaned the line, on May 28, and opened the blockage.

For security reasons, most of stands are fenced and locked, therefore access to sewer lines for maintenance is limited.

At the moment, EMM reportedly has teams working in the Brackendowns area to do preventative maintenance and requests the public to assist them with access to the services. All teams should have identification cards and/or appointment letters, in the case of contractors, to identify them. Their validity can be checked with the municipal offices on 011 999 2646 or 011 999 2647 or water.alberton@ekurhuleni.gov.za where complaints can also be logged during office hours.
