Bree Primary School wins provincial play-offs

The winners of the Gauteng leg, Bree Primary School, will play in the finals.

GAUTENG provincial championship playoffs in the u.12 Danone Nations Cup took place recently, at WJ Clements Stadium, and from the word go there were only two teams in the tournament.

Bree Primary, who were the 2009 national winners, and Sonqoba Primary School overshadowed the other teams and dominated the proceedings at the provincial play-offs.

As winners of the Gauteng leg of this worldwide competition, Bree Primary School will now compete at the nationals, which will be held on Saturday, June 27, at the same venue.

Sonqoba has made the final game of the Gauteng provincial finals in the two previous years, winning the 2013 final to represent the province in the national finals. Bree were the last South African winners of the Danone Nations Cup World Finals in 2009.

At the end of the match between the two sides, they were 0-0 and the winner had to be decided by a penalty shoot-out. Bree Primary won 2-0 to advance to the national finals this coming Saturday.

Mandla Mazibuko, Mamelodi Sundowns scout and coach, said that he kept his eye on the players and there was a lot of good talent on display.
