ALBERTON – Wally Bosworth public swimming pool has been open to the public since September 1.

A R5 entrance fee per person is levied and school children are not allowed into the pool during school hours unless prior arrangements have been made by their schools.
According to Wally Bosworth facility manager, Christo Enslin, two fully qualified superintendents will be on duty at all times while the pool is open. The superintendents serve communities as qualified lifesavers, trained by Lifesaving South Africa. The certification they obtained is valid for one year and must be renewed annually through theoretical and practical examination.
In an effort to curb the rising number of drowning cases in community pools and ensure residents’ safety, the municipality is offering patrons of all ages three and up an opportunity to join the Learn-to-Swim programme conducted by qualified swimming instructors. Learn-to-Swim aims to assist a person with no swimming skills, or even develop intermediate swimmers into advanced swimmers. Community members who are interested in taking part in the programme may enquire at the pool directly with one of the superintendents present.
