Professor invited to prestigious heritage awards

The awards recognise people and organisations who have been involved in preserving and promoting South African heritage.

Brackenhurst — A local professor is a nominee for the prestigious 2015 Golden Shield Heritage Awards that will be taking place at Gallagher Estate in Midrand on Friday.

Professor Cosbie Mbele from Brackenhurst will be grazing the red carpet with people and organisations who have been involved in preserving and promoting South African heritage.

Cosbie is a singer, producer, author of Lady in Africa in America and an educator who has lectured at the City University of New York for over 10 years.

She became a visiting professor at Wits University in 1996.

*The Golden Shield National Heritage Awards acknowledges champions of heritage. This is the only award programme in the country that seeks to recognise the contributions of any individual(s), government and non-governmental organisations, institutions involved in heritage preservation and the promotion of South African heritage.
