Drug dealer caught red handed
One suspect was caught in a high speed chase for selling drugs to a white female in General Alberts.
A Nigerian man was caught in a high speed chase after a CPS member witnessed him selling drugs to a white female in Albany Street, General Alberts on Tuesday September 10.
Nardus Hollander came around the corner of Albany Street, saw something suspicious and made a U-turn. As the suspect spotted Nardus in his mirror he sped off towards Clinton Road and the female who had bought the drugs ran off into a block of flats.
A high speed chase ensued, but CPS’s Tyrone van der Merwe and Nardus Hollander caught up with the suspect after he knocked the pavement on the corner of Phantom Street and Swartkoppies Road.
CPS, Crime Task Team and the K9 Dog Unit members searched the suspect but found no drugs, the car was also searched on the surface; although an in depth search will be done. The car, which does not belong to the suspect, will be impounded and the suspect will be arrested and charged for dealing with narcotics.
Nardus told the RECORD, “The reason why we might not find drugs on him, is because they only travel with the exact amount they are about to sell, if they are caught the drugs have already been sold.”
The Nigerian’s cellphone rang constantly while he was being questioned. “The suspect is a Nigerian and does not have any documentation to be in the country legally. In the chase he ran three red robots,” said Tyrone.
The suspect said, “I ran because I do not have a licence”. When one of the Crime Task Team members asked him to open the bonnet, he did not know where the latch was and said, “Yeah it is not my car, I do not know.”
