Fetus discovered in Duduza
"We suspect that this was fetus of about four to six months, but the mother is still unknown,"
Duduza – A fetus was discovered on Thursday morning, at about 9.05am in Duduza.
Police spokesperson W/O Imtiaz Yakub Rasool says the Duduza police received a call from community member informing them that an infant had been dumped in Zulu Section, at the open space behind Roseview Primary School.
“On arrival the police found the caller, who had called to the station and the community member was able to show the police where the fetus lay.
“We suspect that this was fetus of about four to six months, but the mother is still unknown,” he says.
A case of concealment of birth has been open at the Duduza Police Station.
Rasool says they urgently need community members with any information regarding this matter or who can identify the mother, to contact Constable Mlungisi Ntetheni on 011 730-4737/4735.
All information will be treated with confidentiality and people who can provide information can remain anonymous, he says.
Joyce Tseko (47) who discovered the fetus says she normally goes around collecting plastic bottles, so in the morning she went to the open space, pulled the blanket and plastics but heard something fall out.
“I then ran away thinking it was a snake. However, when I saw nothing moving I returned to the blanket.
“As I was not sure of what I was seeing, I rushed to the school next to the open space to find someone to help me and when they confirmed it was a fetus that still had a cord, we called the police,” she says.
