UPDATE: Two have been arrested and R59 road is open

R59 is open and police are still on the scene.

TWO protesters have been arrested and according to local authorities the R59 is open after it was closed by protesters earlier this morning.

The R59 between Johannesburg and the Vaal  was barricaded with stones and  burning tyres just after blockhouse.

It was closed both ways due to protesters from a nearby squatter camp.

According to police the community are still throwing stones at the police, but they are monitoring the area.

Traffic was backed up for several hours.
