No improvement in state of Post Office

UPDATE on the state of the Alberton Post Office.

EVEN after a number of articles and letters published about the state of the Alberton Post Office, the situation is not improving.

RECORD went to see if any progress has been made at the Alberton Post Office after several stories, letters, and ongoing complaints from Post Office users over the dirt, smell, hygiene concerns and bad service.

On Wednesday, July 13, our visit to the Post Office revealed that not only has the situation not improved, but it has drastically worsened.

The smell of human waste is overpowering, rubbish strewn about, urine stains on floors and walls, chicken bones and cigarette butts everywhere, and sleeping bags and blankets of the homeless who seem to have made the Post Office their home.

Previous correspondence with the Post Office had them assuring us that they would address the problems, but months later, the situation is far worse and escalating. “I refuse to go to the Alberton Post Office. We were there the other day (my grandson and I) and that place is a serious health risk, and just really unpleasant to go to,” said one of the many residents who have complained about the state of the Post Office.

RECORD requested comment from the Post Office, but have received no comment as yet; we will keep readers updated with any further developments in this matter.
