BREAKING NEWS: Chaos in Meyerton
A violent strike broke out in Meyerton this morning.
PEOPLE are urged by local authorities to stay in their workplaces and in their houses due to a violent strike that broke out early this morning in Meyerton.
Apparently SAMWU employees were told during the Bargaining Council’s decision yesterday, July 13, that no strike is allowed at the Midvaal Local Municipality.
Threats of destruction to the main offices were made earlier, and the municipality has been evacuated to ensure the safety of staff members.
The management of the municipality strongly condemns these actions and urges the strikers to respect the decision handed down by the Bargaining Council.
Disciplinary action will be taken against all staff members involved in the destruction and illegal activities.
The municipality apologises to residents for the disruption in services that will occur during this period.
A broadcast message has been doing the round asking people to pray for the residents of Meyerton as strikers are allegedly burning down the town clinic.
All of the shops in Loch Street are closed due to the violent strike.
Strikers are reportedly throwing stones and destroying dustbins.
More details will follow.
