Lend a helping hand to local SPCA

SADLY due to the economic situation in South Africa, donations to Alberton SPCA are down on last year’s figure.

SADLY due to the economic situation in South Africa, donations to Alberton SPCA are down on last year’s figure.

This is obviously of huge concern, as the SPCA does not receive any government funding. The committee tries to find new and innovative ways to raise much needed funds, thus the society is holding a golf day on Tuesday. September 6.

If anyone is able to assist with hole and prize sponsorships, the committee would be extremely grateful. In addition, they need players on the day.

For further information, contact Alberton SPCA on 011 907 1568, or email to fundraising1@spcaalberton.org.za.

If, however, you are unable to assist with the golf day, the SPCA has lots of other ways you can help, and it won’t cost you a cent.

They collect waste paper and have two huge bins outside their premises in Lincoln Road, where you can drop off your paper at your convenience.

For all the shoppers out there, sign up for the My School/My Planet card and nominate Alberton SPCA as your beneficiary. Every time you shop at either Woolworths or the Engen shop, for example, the society receives a percentage of the sale. This doesn’t cost the shopper anything, but the animals benefit.

They SPCA also has a second-hand shop on their premises in Lincoln Road, General Alberts Park, where they sell dog and cat food. Donations of unwanted household goods, clothes, books, working electronic equipment and bric-a-brac, are always welcome. Goods must be in a reasonable condition for re-sale.

The SPCA will collect larger donations if you contact the office on 011 907 1568. So, get busy during the last few weeks of winter and have a sort out, ready for spring.
