Enjoying music in the park for charity

The annual Music in the Park spring concert promised and delivered a line-up of musicians of international standing

WALKERVILLE: Mellow tunes of marimba with a mix of string instruments and angelic vocal soloists, is what attendees were treated to at the charity concert on Sunday September 8, in aid of the Walkerville Abbeyfield Old Age Home.

The annual Music in the Park spring concert promised and delivered a line-up of musicians of international standing such as the international gold medal winning Wits Choir who have toured the world and played host to overseas choirs, as well as the Cantare Children’s Choir from Alberton.

“Also performing at the event was the Vienna String Quartet which has for years been setting the standard for good quality shows of popular, light and classical music,” said organiser, Johan Booysens.

The concert, was held at the Walkerville Show Grounds on the northern border of the village, was the ideal way for families to relish a picnic while listening to smooth sounds. Johannesburg South’s own marimba band from Waterstone College also showcased their musical talents.
