URBAN Queens Team members travelled to New York, to participate in Talent America from July 6 to 14.
“Travelling to New York City was one of the best feelings in the world. To get this opportunity to represent our country was one of our biggest dreams, we had so much fun in NYC. We learned so much with our tours and workshops and, can we just say that the food was amazing,” said Chantelle Pretorius (choreographer/teacher/dancer).
The competition was really fun for the group and they made lots of new friends and also saw a lot of good performances.
“We want to make Urban Queens a bigger group/formation of girls, to compete for new titles,” Pretorius added.
”We are a group of girls who only want to perform and tell our story through our dance.
”With this experience, some of the girls could make a decision about what they want to do after school with dancing, maybe become teachers and Broadway dancers.”
New York really is a city that never sleeps. According to the dancers it was so much fun for them and a good learning opportunity.
They had daily tours, visiting places such as Time Square, South Street Seaport, The Bull, the World Trade Centre, New York Film Academy, Bryant Park , Central Park, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum and lots more. They also enjoyed a yacht cruise to the Statue of Liberty.
Urban Queens thanked all the wonderful people who helped them to make all of this possible.
“We would like to start to thank our parents, they are always there with us late nights, and will always be there to cheer for us, we like to call them our personal cheerleaders.
”Then we would like to thank Hannetjie and Wynhand Pretorius from WHP for sponsoring our photos. To Yolande Mostert and Rita Mostert for all their support and love, without Yolande (Danzwrx Dance Studio) this would have never been possible. To Sarie Pretorius, singer René Reichert, owner Chris CK Kazadi from Click Media Production/Face Of BasketballSA @BiogenSA Brand Ambassador and actor/singer Clinton Brink for our Talent Competition at The Glen Shopping Centre, that was part of our fund-raising, and manager Carla from The Glen Shopping Centre.
”We would also like to thank the owners of Talent Africa, Shawn and Melanie Ashcroft. Thank you for believing in us, thank you for all your help. Talent Africa made our dreams come true.
”And then we would like to thank Danie Harmse. Danie made all this possible, he was the brains of this group; from the bottom of our hearts we are really thankful for everything you did for us,” they said.
