EMPD crackdown on unroadworthy cars

The EMPD Bumper to Bumper campaign cracked down on unroadworthy vehicles recently.

THE EMPD Bumper to Bumper operation cracked down on unroadworthy vehicles recently.

On Tuesday, September 6, between 06:00 and 14:00, 65 EMPD officers descended on the streets of Germiston in search of vehicles that are not fit to be used on public roads. Sixty vehicles suspected of being unroadworthy were taken through to the Alrode Testing Station where 41 of them failed the roadworthy test and three were candidates for impounding.

The 41 vehicles which failed the roadworthy test were issued with discontinue notices which means the vehicle licence has been confiscated and the vehicle has to go for a roadworthy test. The 41 vehicles included 12 public passenger vehicles, 25 private vehicles, three small trucks and one tractor. Three vehicles (two private vehicles and one truck) found to be in a dismal state were impounded.

The three impounded vehicles were taken to the EMPD Alberton pound and can only be released on payment of towing and storage fees.

Issued by Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson.
